Star Wars: The Last Jedi Will Be The Longest Film In The Franchise

There's still a lot we don't know about Rian Johnson's Star Wars: The Last Jedi, and understandably so. Disney has been keeping any and all plot details under lock and key, with only the vaguest bits of information leaking out in the lead up to the film's release. We expect things to stay that way, too, and don't imagine that even the upcoming full length trailer will spill very much.

Frankly, we’re quite alright with that, as it’ll actually be nice to step into a major blockbuster and not know every plot beat before the lights even go down. And in the case of The Last Jedi, there will certainly be a lot of surprises in store for us, as it’s being reported that at 150 minutes, it’ll be the longest film in the franchise. Though unconfirmed at the moment, a posting on ticket booking site CineWorld has revealed the runtime and if accurate, it would put Episode VIII ahead of Attack of the Clones (142 minutes) to take the title of the longest Star Wars movie.

Obviously, given that Lucasfilm hasn’t confirmed this and December is still a ways away, things could always change. That being said, it’s easy to imagine this being accurate, given all of the plot threads and storylines that The Last Jedi needs to address. Not to mention all the characters its juggling and the set up it has to do for Episode IX.

Besides, it’s not like 150 minutes is unbearably long. Many blockbusters have gone on for much longer and been absolutely fine. Plus, when it comes to that galaxy far, far away, we’re happy to spend as much time in it as need be. So, if this rumored runtime does indeed turn out to be on the level, you certainly won’t hear any complaints from us.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi has been penciled in for a release on December 15th. Its untitled sequel, meanwhile, Episode IX, has since found a new director (J.J. Abrams) and release date (December 20th, 2019), placing it right alongside Warner’s Wonder Woman 2.
