Following Empire Magazine’s awesome Suicide Squad cover featuring Jared Leto’s Joker, several more images from the latest issue of the mag have made their way online courtesy of some scans from ComicBookMovie.com. Plus, they’ve transcribed some very interesting quotes from Leto regarding his much-publicized preparation for the role.

The images feature another look at the Joker in a straitjacket while he converses with Margot Robbie’s Harleen Quinzel – who was actually a psychologist before becoming the unhinged Harley Quinn. There’s also some behind-the-scenes snaps of director David Ayer, Viola Davis as Amanda Waller, Cara Delevingne’s Enchantress, and various shots of the rest of the squad assembled.

As for the quotes, Leto comments on the unconventional ways in which he prepared to take on the Joker, which included staying in character even between takes, and sending some very strange gifts to his fellow cast.

There was definitely a period of…detachment. I took a pretty deep dive. But this was a unique opportunity and I couldn’t imagine doing it another way. It was fun, playing those psychological games. But at the same time it was very painful, like giving birth out of my prick hole. I always get the sense that The Joker may be much older than people think. It’s something different. If you don’t break rules, you’re not going to strike new ground. I think I’ll be cooling down for the rest of my life.

Suicide Squad also stars Will Smith as Deadshot, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang, Cara Delevingne as Enchantress, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje as Killer Croc, Karen Fukuhara as Katana, Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flag, Adam Beach as Slipknot and Jay Hernandez as El Diablo. The movie is set to hit theaters next August.
