‘Superman: Legacy’ front-runner signs on for another divisive reboot set to feature plenty of flying through the air

Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, but it's not Superman, either.

The fact James Gunn publicly addressed the Superman: Legacy casting reports without confirming or denying anything indicates that at least some of the names being put forward are indeed in the running to don the cape, but David Corenswet was rumored to be a front-runner long before that.

The actor is quickly rising through the Hollywood ranks, and at 29 years old with a chin you could cut glass on, he certainly fits the bill in more ways than one. In good news, then, he’s signed on for a blockbuster reboot a lot of people aren’t happy about that’s set to feature plenty of people, things, and objects flying through the air… and it’s called Twisters.

Per Deadline, Corenswet has boarded the legacy follow-up to the 1996 box office smash alongside Maura Tierney, Sasha Lane, Kiernan Shipka, which rounds out a stellar ensemble cast fronted by Glen Powell, Daisy Edgar-Jones, and Anthony Ramos. That’s quite the roster, but does it beat Bill Paxton, Helen Hunt, Phillip Seymour Hoffman, Cary Elwes, Alan Ruck, Jeremy Davies, and all the rest from Jan De Bont’s spectacular original? No it doesn’t, don’t be ridiculous.

Nobody was really asking for another Twister movie more than a quarter of a century on, but Minari director Lee Isaac Chung making his effects-driven studio debut is definitely one reason to get excited. For those holding out hope of Corenswet being anointed as Gunn’s Man of Steel, there’s still a possibility it could happen; even though Superman: Legacy is set to begin shooting in January of next year, Twisters is already locked in for July 2024, so he could well find the time in his schedule.
