Taron Egerton Confirms He Won’t Be In Kingsman 3

Taron Egerton has confirmed that he won't be returning for Kingsman 3, though that doesn't mean he's done with the franchise for good.

After orchestrating a Secret Service and bringing moviegoers into the Golden Circle, it seems writer-director Matthew Vaughn is getting ready now to put the bow on his boisterous Kingsman trilogy.

The filmmaker’s already cooking up plans for a potential trilogy-capper, which isn’t all that surprising when you consider that he’s always envisioned Kingsman as a three-film arc. And though the threequel has been handed a release date of November 8th, 2019, there’s still much we don’t know about it.

What we can tell you with certainty, however, is that Taron Egerton will not be returning to reprise the role of Eggsy. Given that the next chapter in the franchise is said to be a prequel, that’s not too surprising, but it’s still disappointing to hear. Though according to the actor, he’s not done with the character just yet.

“I don’t know how hot off the press this is, and I think I’m allowed to say it, but I’m not in the next Kingsman movie,” Egerton said. “That doesn’t mean I won’t be in Kingsman ever again though. I was with Matthew [Vaughn] as little as a few days ago, we’re still very much in business together, but his next journey in that world doesn’t involve me.”

Continuing on, Egerton praised Vaughn’s idea for the third outing, saying that it’s going to be very, very exciting:

“His idea for the new one is incredibly exciting,” Egerton added. “I’m sad that I won’t be on that journey with him but it’s not the last you’ve seen of Eggsy.”

Of course, what the actor’s hinting at here is that aside from the prequel, Vaughn’s apparently got one more Kingsman movie planned as well, and it’s said to be the conclusion to Eggsy’s story. So, like Taron says, fans needn’t worry that they’ve seen the last of him. He’ll just be sitting the next one out, which is fine, really, and should give the director some room to explore new characters and parts of this world.

Firm details on what exactly lies ahead for the franchise still remain a bit hazy, with a few conflicting reports flying around, but again, it’s believed that the next Kingsman will be the prequel and then, once that’s out of the way, Vaughn and Egerton will reunite to finish the tale of Eggsy.
