Like all internet detectives, however, they occasionally jump to conclusions and then feel disappointed when the end result isn’t what they expected. Due to the release of Swift’s newest single on the day of the Avengers: Endgame premiere, as well as the coincidence of one of her previous tracks being entitled “End Game,” some fans speculated that the musician would make a cameo in the movie.

When she didn’t, a handful of people were understandably disappointed, and on The Ellen Show, Swift sympathized with her devotees:

“Well, there were some fans that thought I had something to do with Avengers: Endgame. Which, I would have loved to have been asked, but I wasn’t asked to be in it at all. Because we had the single coming out the same day and I have that was called ‘End Game’ and so they were like, ‘Oh my god, she’s gonna defeat, Thanos.’ I let everyone down again.”

While it’s undoubtedly true that a few zealots may have felt frustrated by the lack of Swift, it’s pretty safe to say that most others didn’t notice her absence. The truth is that the vast majority of moviegoers weren’t rushing to the theater to see Swift steal back the Infinity Stones. A cameo appearance would have been great, but the lack of one didn’t sour the viewing experience.

Given her interest in appearing in a Marvel movie though, perhaps Disney will approach the pop star about a potential role in one of their many upcoming films. Even a Brad Pitt-esque pop-up like in Deadpool 2 could be played for laughs.

Though Swift and a small number of Swifties may be bummed that she wasn’t in one of the biggest movies of all-time, there could still be a future for her in the MCU. Meanwhile, Avengers: Endgame continues to rake in money, even without the talents of the bestselling artist.
