Teresa Palmer Takes The Female Lead In Point Break Remake

Deadline is reporting that Aussie actress Teresa Palmer is in talks to join Edgar Ramirez (who recently replaced Gerard Butler) and Luke Bracey in Alcon's upcoming Point Break remake. Though we don't have specifics on her role just yet (I imagine she'll play a love interest), we do know that it is the female lead. We also know that the film will follow a young FBI agent (Bracey) who must go undercover to take down an organized gang of criminals, led by Ramirez's character, and that the story will be set against the backdrop of extreme sports.

Deadline is reporting that Aussie actress Teresa Palmer is in talks to join Edgar Ramirez (who recently replaced Gerard Butler) and Luke Bracey in Alcon’s upcoming Point Break remake. Though we don’t have specifics on her role just yet (I imagine she’ll play a love interest), we do know that it is the female lead. We also know that the film will follow a young FBI agent (Bracey) who must go undercover to take down an organized gang of criminals, led by Ramirez’s character, and that the story will be set against the backdrop of extreme sports.

For those who haven’t been keeping up, the remake will be helmed by Ericson Core (Invincible) and has a script from Kurt Wimmer (the Total Recall remake). If that doesn’t inspire much confidence, we don’t blame you. Nothing about this remake really sounds terribly appealing to us, either, and although Palmer is a beautiful young actress who has shown potential in the past, I still can’t get behind this film. At least, not yet.

I’ve been skeptical from the start, as have most people, and I really can’t see this movie turning out to be anywhere near as good as the original was. The 1991 version is just such an iconic, classic and near-perfect action film that any attempt to remake it is going to be heavily scrutinized, and rightfully so.

Point Break will start shooting on June 26th and hit theatres on August 7th, 2015. We’ll be sure to keep you posted when/if we hear of any further casting additions. Until then, head on down to the comments and let us know if you’re behind this remake yet.
