While Reilly remains purposefully vague, his comment about the new villain being “out of left field” hints at the possibility of the antagonist this time around being human. In an early version of the Salvation script, John Connor actually died and the Marcus Terminator donned a Connor “mansuit” which enabled him to continue the battle against Skynet. Are the filmmakers about to truly irk fans with this manoeuvre? He goes on to confirm some head-scratching time travel antics, and the fact that a new type of Terminator (John Connor?) will make an appearance:
Again, it is Arnold coming back as old Terminator. And time traveling. The time traveling elements are going to confuse the hell out of everyone. That is what I’m hearing. The Terminator and new Terminators…We got a hybrid of the Terminator in Salvation…Now we have a different form of a Terminator…Which I will not get into because that is a big spoiler…But there is a different sort of Terminator coming out and its a reach. I’m like, why are you doing this? Can’t we just go back to the basics? I would love to see Skynet’s last attempt to destroy the Connor family for the future, and send in the last Terminator they have, and its the old T-800 model, Arnold Schwarzenegger as the bad guy.
Reilly goes on to express his utter dismay in the project, before dishing out a major scoop; the original T-800 from the first movie will have a huge scene at the start. That’s not unexpected, as we already know Schwarzenegger is reprising his role as an aged T-800, and CGI can do wonders in the reversal of ageing.
It’s hard to believe that this new attempt to restart the franchise is going to be that much of a catastrophic failure. Paramount have slated Genisys to kickstart a brand new trilogy of films, with a TV show also set to tie-in to the story. With such a swarm of support from the studio, who have also announced release dates for the second and third parts, we’re gonna wait until the movie opens before casting our judgment on Terminator: Genisys.
