Terminator: Genisys Could Be The “Last Nail In The Coffin” For The Franchise

The future of the Terminator franchise is reliant on the success of Alan Taylor's upcoming fifth instalment, Terminator: Genisys. With early word from the actors involved, and series creator James Cameron suggesting it's primed to land on the positive side of critical comment, there's still those who are doubting the alleged direction the material will take. We know that Arnold Schwarzennegger's T-800 will return, whose aged exterior has been conveniently explained, that it'll be a love story, and also that it won't be a definite sequel per say.

The future of the Terminator franchise is reliant on the success of Alan Taylor’s upcoming fifth instalment, Terminator: Genisys. With early word from the actors involved, and series creator James Cameron suggesting it’s primed to land on the positive side of critical comment, there’s still those who are doubting the alleged direction the material will take. We know that Arnold Schwarzennegger’s T-800 will return, whose aged exterior has been conveniently explained, that it’ll be a love story, and also that it won’t be a definite sequel per say.

Jai Courtney, who’ll be playing Kyle Reese for this latest pic, has previously mentioned that the new film will not be a reboot or remake. He instead referred to it as a “reset” that’ll splinter off from the events of the first movie, and essentially create an entirely new Terminator universe. It’s an idea that’s been kicking around for two years and seems to have been absorbed into the plot for Genisys. Seeing as we’re still without an official synopsis, fans are piecing together tidbits of info here and there to try and figure out what the story will actually be.

Well, it seems someone outside of production has read the script. Mark Reilly over at Schmoes Know recently divulged a considerable chunk of rumoured information about the plot and characters on the Meet The Movie Press podcast. Talking about the actual story, he said (via Screen Rant):

“I have a very, very, very good source that has been right every time with stuff he or she has given me. And I know the whole movie of Terminator Genisys. I’m not going to spoil the movie. The real kind of scoop would ruin the movie. I’m just not into that. There are Terminator fans, rabid Terminator fans, I am one of them. This is what I’ll say: We’re in trouble. This movie…I think it’s going to piss off Terminator fans. I think it’s going to be the last nail in the coffin in the franchise. The way that they are trying to spin a new take on the Terminator series is… I don’t even think it looks good on paper. I know the ending. I know who the villain is. And it’s out of left field.”
