Thanks to a change in the algorithm, Dwayne Johnson is officially the king of Netflix twice over

Maybe he belongs on streaming.

His box office power may be waning after the back-to-back bombings of DC League of Super-Pets and Black Adam left him zero-for-two in terms of DC Comics adaptations – which may or may not have facilitated his return to Fast & Furious depending on whether or not you believe the conspiracies – but Dwayne Johnson has at least been crowned the king of Netflix twice over.

After the streaming service unveiled an updated method of calculating viewership data, there’s been widespread changes to the all-time Top 10 lists, with Wednesday dislodging Stranger Things as the biggest episodic hit in the company’s history, while Robert Rodriguez’s forgotten superhero caper We Can Be Heroes has appeared out of nowhere to claim sixth spot on the feature-length list.

However, Johnson’s Red Notice remains unmoved as Netflix’s single most popular in-house motion picture ever made, and it’s even secured a sizeable advantage over its nearest competitor into the bargain. In terms of hours viewed, Rawson Marshall Thurber’s globetrotting actioner was only 45 million hours ahead of Adam McKay’s star-studded disaster comedy Don’t Look Up, but when you take the new view count system into consideration, the A-list adventure has emerged 60 million views ahead of the apocalyptic farce.

On the plus side, it goes to show that The Rock is still a major draw on-demand as his box office credentials are being called into question, which bodes very well for Prime Video’s incoming festive spectacular Red One. Basically, if you want nailed-on success on any major platform, then Dwayne Johnson and the word “Red” in the title are surefire ways to do it.
