Of all the sequels landing on the silver screen over the course of 2015, few will contain such zealous glee as Elizabeth Banks’ Pitch Perfect 2. Building upon the musical foundations laid by 2012’s smash hit — itself drawing in an impressive $113 million worldwide off of a $17 million budget — the next adventure for The Barden Bellas will take the budding singers global. Brace yourself, world, you’re about to get “pitch slapped.”
The film reunites Anna Kendrick, Rebel Wilson, Brittany Snow, Hailee Steinfeld and the rest of the energetic gang as they enter a high-profile competition. Setting up a do-or-die framework, the stage is set for the all-female a cappella crew to fight against the odds and prove that their reputation goes beyond the doors of Barden University.
Couple this with the catchy soundtrack and the trailer’s numerous comedic moments and you have a sequel that will look to take the successful formula of its predecessor one step further. Mind you, we’ll have to reserve or judgement until the film debuts in May to decide whether or not Pitch Perfect was a one trick, one film pony.
