The cat gets out of the bag after test screenings confirm an all-time horror classic has a secret prequel

At least it isn't a legacy sequel, right?

There isn’t a single horror property on the planet that can ever be deemed safe from a reboot, reimagining, remake, requel, or any of the other buzzwords that use the suffix – especially with legacy sequels all the rage these days in the genre – but it looks as though the rumors surrounding the secretive Apartment 7A are right on the money.

Last summer, it was reported that the mysterious project was a stealthy prequel to Roman Polanski’s all-time classic Rosemary’s Baby, one of the most influential and iconic tales of terror in the history of cinema that enjoyed critical, commercial, and awards season success on its way to cultivating a reputation as one of the best ever.

Apartment 7A was originally announced for Paramount Plus, but you’d expect it to be upgraded to a theatrical release looking at how David Gordon Green’s Halloween trilogy, the two most recent entries in the Scream saga and Evil Dead Rise have performed at the box office, although nothing has been confirmed or denied as of yet.

However, test screenings have been held, which did at least confirm beyond any reasonable doubt that audiences will be finding out what Rosemary Woodhouse was doing before she had the titular child that turned her life upside down in more ways than one.

Does the world need a Rosemary’s Baby prequel? No, it absolutely does not. However, if it turns out to justify its existence then it’ll get a pass. Michael Bay’s Platinum Dunes are producing, though, which doesn’t exactly instill a great deal of confidence that it will.
