The Marvel misfire that showed Kevin Feige what happens when a cinematic universe tries to run before it can walk is coming to Disney Plus

Exhibit A in what not to do.

You know things are getting bad when the CEO of Disney blames Disney Plus for stretching the Marvel Cinematic Universe too thin, and it’s become patently clear across the Multiverse Saga so far that dropping so many new movies and TV shows on a regular basis has been detrimental to the franchise’s overall quality.

In an even more ironic twist, the streaming service that’s been banishing its own content to the realms of streaming purgatory is imminently welcoming the infamous Marvel Comics adaptation that showed precisely what can happen when a single feature tries to set up an entire shared mythology in the space of two hours and change.

As of August 11, Sony’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2 will be available to subscribers in the United States, and it’ll be destined to rise right to the top of the viewership charts despite being the worst-reviewed and lowest-grossing live-action outing for the iconic web-slinger that there’s ever been.

Prior to Garfield’s second and final solo outing landing in theaters, The Amazing Spider-Man 3 and 4 already had release dates, while Drew Goddard was feverishly working away on the Sinister Six spin-off that had been signposted during the final scene, and that’s without even mentioning the various other offshoots that were in the works prior to the studio deciding the safest – and smartest – option was to burn the whole thing down and partner up with Kevin Feige’s all-conquering outfit.

Obviously, Sony has decided to try again and is already running the risk of the exact same results, but at least Feige hasn’t gone full-blown TASM2… at least, not yet.
