Marvel, and in particular, the Multiverse Saga have been in hot waters lately. Between complaints of superhero fatigue and the flop that was the kickstarter of Phase Five, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, it’s safe to say fans are not happy with the direction the MCU has been taking. To make matters worse, though, it seems as if this new era lacks something crucial: the Avengers.
Yes, the old team of Avengers suffered great losses due to the events of Avengers: Endgame, but movies featuring that group of superheroes are what elevated the MCU to new heights, and turned it into the mega-franchise that it is today. Now, though, viewers are left feeling as if the Multiverse Saga is attempting to sweep all of that under the rug, by postponing a proper Avengers team-up film until 2025. And that is only if the scheduled release for Avengers: The Kang Dynasty doesn’t suffer alterations along the way.
On Reddit, fans are expressing their disappointment that there will be six years between Avengers movies, as the MCU now takes its sweet time to gather the Young Avengers team.
In all fairness, it makes sense for the franchise to introduce the next generation of superheroes and have the previous ones guide them before fully passing the torch, however, most folks argue that six years is too long of a wait. Is it realistic for us to believe that the multiverse can go that long without needing a proper, full team to step up in the meantime? The people aren’t inclined to buy that.
Additionally, do we really need a constant upping of stakes in order to see the team-up we’re all waiting for? Having smaller-scale Avengers movies in between universe-large threats is part of what made the build-up to Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame worth it, but Marvel doesn’t seem to realize that. Instead, it’s choosing to hold back in order to give us side quests only. Don’t get us wrong, side quests can be great, and are an important part of creating a working franchise, but not at all costs.
If the MCU continues on as it is, The Kang Dynasty might end up being fumbled, with a mash-up of characters with no real connection other than stopping the next big bad.
Marvel, fans want the Young Avengers, they want them now, and it feels right. So why wait until The Kang Dynasty to deliver?
