‘There was not a real strong feeling of the conclusion’: Harrison Ford is surprisingly kind to ‘Crystal Skrull’

Isn't he supposed to be the grumpiest man in Hollywood?

Given his status as Hollywood’s favorite curmudgeon, there may have been a lot of people expecting Harrison Ford to start wailing on Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull as soon as he hit the promotional trail for upcoming sequel Dial of Destiny.

After all, the actor’s responses to Star Wars questions have become the stuff of legend over the years, and the prospect of him tackling inquiries relating to the lore of the Marvel Cinematic Universe prior to the release of next year’s Captain America: Brave New World is mouthwatering stuff for hilarious reasons.

And yet, while reflecting on his decision to return as the whip-cracking archeologist for a fifth and final time in an interview with CNN, the 80 year-old icon was in a surprisingly reflective mood, essentially admitting that his last outing didn’t quite bring the story to the full circle finale he’d envisioned.

“Six years ago, I thought maybe we ought to take a shot at making another one. And I wanted it to be about age because I think that rounds out the story that we’ve told and we brought it to the right place. I mean, the last one ended in kind of a suspended animation. There was not a real strong feeling of the conclusion or the closure that I always hoped for.”

To call Kingdom of the Crystal Skull polarizing would be the understatement of the year, but it still holds a higher Rotten Tomatoes score than Dial of Destiny, which is nothing if not concerning. Maybe this time Ford will get the ending he wants, and let’s hope he does, because he’s been adamant that this is the end of the line for Indy.
