Even for a tentpole summer blockbuster, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 has had an onslaught of advertising leading up to its May 2 release. Marc Webb’s webslinger sequel has revealed several trailers, behind-the-scenes featurettes and a ton of character posters. However, much of its marketing campaign has focused on Electro, the supercharged villain and member of the Sinister Six crime syndicate.

In the newest online clip for The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man and Jaime Foxx’s Electro are at a stand-off in Times Square. As a crowd of onlookers (plus Emma Stone’s Gwen Stacy) prepare for a face off, snipers are ready to shoot at the electrifying villain if he makes a false move, which is inevitable. This one-minute clip is likely a lead-up to one of the film’s major action sequences and offers quite the tease for fans of the franchise. Unfortunately, the clip cuts away just as the action sparks.

Although the dialogue in the footage leaves much to be desired, Foxx does look great in the part and the visual effects are spectacular. You certainly will not like Electro when he is angry. With Foxx, as well as terrific character actors like Dane DeHaan and Paul Giamatti taking up small, but potent villainous roles in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (as The Green Goblin and Rhino, respectively), there is a lot potential for the action flick to outdo the predecessor.

Some viewers, such as this writer, felt that The Amazing Spider-Man was a tired rehashing of elements from Sam Raimi’s superhero trilogy. However, a clip like this is a good indication that the director is on the right track with the sequel.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 will try to live up to its boastful title when it swings into theatres on May 2. In the meantime, check out the clip below and see if your Spidey senses tingle.
