Tom Cruise confirms he still dances in his underwear 40 years on from ‘Risky Business’

There are many memorable performances by Tom Cruise, but this one from 'Risky Business' stands out.

Risky Business premiered in the United States on 5 August 1983, and is notable for Tom Cruise‘s unforgettable dance scene to Bob Seger’s “Old Time Rock and Roll,” which has since become an iconic moment in film history.

Almost 40 years later, Cruise reflected on the most memorable moment of his illustrious career, or at least one of many unforgettable moments, if you count the time he jumped on Oprah Winfrey’s couch during an interview to declare his love for Katie Holmes as iconic.

Talking to Access Hollywood at the Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One premiere, Cruise discussed Risky Business, recalling filming the now-iconic scene and expressing gratitude for the film’s role in catapulting him to stardom.

“Look, I grew up dancing in my underwear in my house. Who didn’t? That was a formative experience, and I feel very lucky to have that opportunity, to be able to have that kind of script and that kind of material at that age.”

And when asked if he still occasionally dances in his underwear, Cruise replied:

“Yeah, I still,”

Risky Business is an excellent place to start for those wanting to indulge in vintage Tom Cruise. The actor portrays main character Joel Goodsen, a top student at a prestigious high school in the Chicago suburbs. Joel is a shy and cautious youngster working hard to maintain his stellar academic performance, but when his parents leave him home alone for a few days, what begins as harmless play quickly spirals out of control.

As for his most recent movie, the sequel to 2018’s Mission: Impossible – Fallout, Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One’s opens in the United States on 12 July.
