Thanks to IGN, though, the other week finally saw the release of Venom‘s first official photo. Unfortunately, however, it wasn’t much and didn’t even give us a look at how the titular antihero will appear in the film. True, we’ll take what we can get at this stage, but it was wholly underwhelming and as such, fans are left wanting more. When the next piece of the puzzle will drop is currently unclear, but thankfully, it doesn’t seem like it’ll be too much longer before the promotional campaign starts heating up.

And that’s because Venom has now wrapped production. After months of set photos and videos giving us a glimpse into Sony’s spinoff, it’s time to head into post and to celebrate, Tom Hardy has shared one last pic on Instagram (seen in the gallery below, along with a few from earlier this month). Accompanied by the caption “Wrapped life back Bye,” it’s hardly a very revealing shot, simply showing the actor in front of a mirror. If nothing else though, it does signify that filming is now complete, which means that we’re sure to be seeing a lot more of the project in the way of official stills and probably, a teaser trailer quite soon.

After all, the studio would be wise to begin the marketing campaign early here, as there’s a lot riding on Venom, given it’s been tasked with launching Sony’s own Marvel universe – a universe that is in no way connected to the MCU…yet. Rumors continue to persist that Tom Holland will swing by for a cameo, but that hasn’t been confirmed and frankly, seems unlikely.

What we do know with absolute certainty, however, is that other projects in the pipeline at Sony include a live-action rendition of Morbius, the Living Vampire and the female-fronted spinoff, Silver and Black, which is coming by way of Gina Prince-Bythewood. Together with Fleischer’s upcoming effort, they’ll kickstart the studio’s new cinematic universe and it’ll be fascinating to see how it all takes shape over the next few years.

Venom has been earmarked for release on October 5th, at which point Hardy will seemingly deliver a superhero performance for the ages.
