Reuniting with his Birdman cinematographer Emmanuel Lubezki (AKA Chivo), the director’s latest has struck a chord with cinephiles due to its atypical approach, shunning studio lighting and interior sets in order to capture the relentless nature of the wilderness in all of its raw and pure glory. It’s a feat that continues to impress in the first TV spot for The Revenant, while a fresh batch of images shed light on some of the film’s leading players.

Headlining the drama is Leonardo DiCaprio, who spoke recently about his character of Hugo Glass and the fire that’s burning in his belly. Rubbing shoulders with him out on the frontier are Tom Hardy, Will Poulter and The Force Awakens alum, Domnhall Gleeson.

The Revenant is due to open on December 25. It’ll weigh in at 156 minutes in length, and early reviews for Alejandro G. Iñárritu’s latest are very, very positive. For now, you can get acquainted with film’s leading cast members – not to mention those icy environments – via the gallery below.

In a quest to survive, Glass endures unimaginable grief as well as the betrayal of his confidant John Fitzgerald (Tom Hardy). THE REVENANT is directed and co-written by renowned filmmaker, Academy Award® winner Alejandro G. Iñárritu (Birdman, Babel).
