Rumours of Tyrese Gibson returning to the Transformers franchise have been swirling for some time now, but the actor himself has finally made it official. Talking to Entertainment Tonight at the BET Awards yesterday, Gibson made it clear that he will indeed be part of Transformers: The Last Knight.

This is an intriguing development, because along with Josh Duhamel, he marks the second cast member from the original trilogy to return for this fifth instalment.

“Let’s just say 2017, summertime, it’s going to be a lot of energy out there in the universe: Fast 8, Transformers 5… I’m here to take advantage of my America.”

Gibson and Duhamel are currently the only two from that first trio of movies to come back for Transformers: The Last Knight (don’t expect Megan Fox to appear), and it’s going to be interesting to see what sort of connective tissue this one has with those. The extent of their roles is also unclear, and for all we know, they’ll only make glorified cameos.

Regardless, they join a very impressive cast which includes Mark Wahlberg, newcomer Isabela Moner and Anthony Hopkins among others. The movie is currently set to be released on June 23rd, next year, and rumours point to it delving into British mythology, something which will certainly be interesting to see Michael Bay get his hands on when we finally get the chance to check out Transformers: The Last Knight.
