Unbeknownst to everyone, Jenna Ortega’s scream queen status initially started thanks to a chilling horror sequel

She isn't forfeiting the crown, either.

Much like her contemporary counterparts, Jenna Ortega has slowly been climbing the ranks of the horror ladder as she fully blossoms into a modern-day scream queen. In the same vein as Mia Goth and Samara Weaving, Ortega has made a monumental name for herself in a variety of recent spooky projects — including Ti West’s X and Tim Burton’s Wednesday series on Netflix. But while the latter is what undoubtedly catapulted Ortega to the peak of her stardom, horror fanatics have masterfully uncovered which horror project kickstarted her success.

Over on Twitter, one eagle-eyed horror fan posted the final scene of Insidious: Chapter 2, which features a 10-year-old Jenna Ortega. In the aforementioned scene, paranormal investigators Specs and Tucker arrive at the house of a family that is being affected by astral projection and the Further. Ortega portrays the family’s youngest daughter who, after speaking with a deceased Elise, inadvertently hints at the fact that she also can astral project, and that she holds the ability to communicate with and sense spirits.

Based on the parade of shocked responses in the replies, it’s obvious that folks were flabbergasted to learn that Ortega’s horror career started so young. In fact, many genre die-hards have rewatched the sequel several times over and glanced right past Ortega without ever actually realizing that Wednesday Addams was before their very eyes.

Considering Ortega’s massive success, it feels extremely unlikely that she would be included in a future Insidious film. Then again, we certainly wouldn’t be opposed to witnessing the Scream VI star make a minor cameo appearance in Insidious: The Red Door when it hits theaters on July 7.
