Unused Captain America: Civil War Concept Art Shows Very Different Costume Designs

Fans have been purchasing advance tickets to Avengers: Infinity War in record numbers since they went on sale nearly three weeks ago, just to see how Earth’s Mightiest Heroes and the Guardians of the Galaxy will cope with the arrival of Josh Brolin's Thanos. The prospect of watching the super villain utterly dismantle the Avengers and those smart-alecky Galaxy protectors does put a smile on my face (sorry, I had to), but I find myself more and more intrigued by how Infinity War will handle the fallout of Captain America: Civil War.

What was once an indivisible supergroup succumbed to the inescapable pressures of varying morals and lasting friendships, causing the Avengers to split in two. The Sokovia Accords drove a wedge between Iron Man and Captain America, forcing the other heroes to choose sides in what became a visually spectacular battle between friends turned foes. In the end, though, there was no real victor, and a majority of the supergroup went their separate ways.

It made for a fantastic film, and now, thanks to some new concept art, you can have a look at how a few of the characters were originally envisioned, with the gallery below showing off alternate designs for Black Widow, Bucky/The Winter Soldier, Captain America and War Machine.

Pretty cool, eh? Thankfully, we don’t have to wait much longer to see how Cap, Tony, and the rest of the Avengers will deal with Thanos and the aftermath of Captain America: Civil War, as all will be revealed once Joe and Anthony Russo’s event movie to end all event movies hits theaters later next month.

Building on 10 years and 18 films’ worth of backstory, Avengers: Infinity War promises to deliver an experience like no other on April 27th – or April 8th, if you happen to be among the lucky few invited to Marvel’s fan screening in the United Kingdom.
