Venom 2 Confirmed To Be In Development

Say what you will about Venom, but the critically panned Sony flick has enjoyed a remarkable run at the box office, surpassing the likes of Wonder Woman and every one of Fox's Marvel adaptations to bring in a total of more than $850 million worldwide. Writer Jeff Pinkner recently spoke to Discussing Film, and when asked about a second installment in the symbiote saga, his response was short but decisive:

“I can’t say anything other than that it is happening.”

Again, most of us had already assumed this was the case, but it’s nice to get a little clarification. As it stands, it’s likely that we’ll be seeing a sequel in cinemas within the next two years, with one report from a few weeks ago suggesting that the film could be scheduled for release on October 2nd, 2020, following on from another Sony/Marvel movie that’s due to hit theaters on July 10th of the same year.

Those developments have yet to be confirmed, but either way, it seems that the studio is moving forward with their plans for a cinematic universe of their own that will likely operate independently from the MCU. At the moment, it’s looking like the Morbius movie starring Jared Leto could well be the next to reach our screens, though hopefully we’ll get a little clarification in the coming months. In any case, thanks to the post-credits of Venom, we already have a pretty good idea of what to expect from Venom 2, and for better or worse, audiences better be ready for some PG-13 Carnage.
