While we don’t know too much yet on the upcoming Spider-Man spin-off Venom, today we get an update that hints towards a possible appearance from the famous villain in the upcoming Amazing Spider-Man, or one of its sequels.

Coming Soon reports that while doing the press rounds for Marc Webb‘s upcoming Spidy reboot, producer Matthew Tolmach hinted that fans may see some strong connections to Venom as they prepare to give the character his own spin-off.

“The whole essence to us for the Marvel characters is stay close to the bible, stay close to the emotional story, and the rest is fun. Look for the worlds to make sense with one another. Hopefully, all these worlds will live together in peace someday.”

Presumably, this means that the events in the Venom film will tie into those that occur during The Amazing Spider-Man.

Producer Avi Arad continued on about what we can expect to see in the Venom film.

“It’s an Eddie Brock story. We want to be as close to the comics as possible. Especially in Eddie Brock’s story. But again, pseudo-science is becoming science. All these tidbits about webs, artificial webs, is a huge industry now. Spiderwebs have unique qualities that will be huge for communications, fibers, and so forth. So we have taken the approach that we want to make the huge amazing movie about Eddie.”

The most important thing here is Tolmach’s comment about looking for the worlds to “make sense with one another.” This can really only mean one thing, that the Venom film will exist within The Amazing Spider-Man universe, meaning that you can expect to see some sort of hints towards Venom either in the first Amazing Spider-Man film, or possibly in the sequels.

It looks like they’re taking a similar approach to Marvel, with tying all the films together to create a “universe” of sorts. It’s not a bad idea and I think it could work, I just wonder what other characters they plan to bring into it. Admittedly, I’m a bit upset with the large focus on Venom as we’ve already seen him in Spider-Man 3, I kind of wish that they would bring in someone who we haven’t seen already.

Nevertheless, this is all very exciting and I’m looking forward to seeing how Sony expands their universe.
