Actor Vince Vaughn will enter the fray after signing on to star in a new “brutal action thriller” called Brawl in Cell Block 99. He’ll play a former boxer whose life is crumbling around him after he becomes a drug mule for a group of shady individuals, which will most likely lead to a hefty amount of prison fights if the title is to be believed.
Here’s a lengthier synopsis of the film:
[The script] centers on a former boxer (Vaughn) whose life is crumbling: He loses his job as an auto mechanic and his troubled marriage is about to expire. At this crossroads in his life, he feels that he has no better option than to work for an old buddy as a drug courier. This vocation improves his situation until the day he finds himself in a gunfight between a group of police officers and his own ruthless allies. When the smoke clears, the man finds himself in prison in a no-win situation as his enemies force him to commit acts of violence that turn the place into a savage battleground.
The new movie comes from writer/director S. Craig Zahler, the mind behind the crazy western film Bone Tomahawk, which debuted to much critical acclaim last year. From the brief, brutal description of his new action flick, it sounds like he’ll keep the intensity up moving forward.
Brawl in Cell Block 99 is set to begin production closer to the end of the summer, with a debut sometime in 2017. We’ll be sure to keep you updated on news coming out of the film’s production, so stay tuned.
