Watch The First U.S. Trailer For Michel Gondry’s Mood Indigo

Mood Indigo is set to hit theaters stateside on July 18th and if this trailer is any indication, it may very well be the most fun film Gondry has made in years. It stars Audrey Tautou (Amelie) and Romain Duris (The Beat My Heart Skipped) as Chloe and Colin, respectively, two young people who meet and soon fall in love. Shortly after they get married, however, Chloe develops an illness that only deteriorates over time. According to the official plot description, her illness is caused by a flower growing in her lungs. So yeah, it's that kind of movie.

So yeah, it’s that kind of movie.

When Gondry’s Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind first hit theaters ten years ago, it seemed as if everyone involved with the film was at the peak of their careers. Sadly, things have not been the same since. Jim Carrey has struggled to remain relevant, Charlie Kaufman hasn’t made a film in over six years, and though Gondry has certainly kept himself busy, nothing he’s made since Eternal Sunshine has received as much critical acclaim.

That might change with Mood Indigo though, which finds the director looking as inspired and as whimsical as ever. The movie has slowly made its way across the world, but it has yet to hit U.S. theaters. That is, until this upcoming summer. I don’t know about you, but Mood Indigo looks like the perfect movie to catch just as the summer blockbuster madness starts to wind down. It’s been way too long since we’ve seen Gondry let his imagination run wild and this film looks to have a little bit of everything.

At any rate, you can decide for yourself whether or not it tickles your fancy by checking out the trailer. While you’re at it, take a look at the brand new poster for Mood Indigo down below as well. It’s pretty colorful… and flowery.
