While she may not be the first name that pops up when you think of stars with a prominent background in the superhero genre, Carla Gugino is no stranger to spandex and superheroes. Having played Lucille in Sin City, she followed it up four years later with her performance as Sally Jupiter in Zack Snyder’s Watchmen, and went on to become a regular collaborator of the filmmaker’s.

As well as lending support in Snyder’s Sucker Punch, Gugino also lent her vocal talents to disembodied Kryptonian voice Kelor in Man of Steel, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and HBO Max’s Justice League, and even reprised the role in an episode of The CW’s Supergirl for good measure. In a new interview, the 49 year-old admitted that she’s more than open to the idea of returning to a genre that’s served her so well in the past.

“I feel like, to me, it’s all about the characters and the people I’m collaborating with. If that were to come about in a superhero movie, I would love to, it’s been a while. It’s been a while since I’ve done that, so I would be totally in for that. I do also love original material. I think, clearly, we’re in a world where we’re rebooting so many things that I do feel refreshed when there’s a new story. There’s absolutely no question about that.”

Snyder additionally voiced his support for Carla Gugino to play Catwoman were Ben Affleck’s version of The Batman ever to happen given that they’re roughly the same age, but the current state of the SnyderVerse would render that wishful thinking. That being said, The Haunting of Hill House star can currently be seen kicking all sorts of ass in Netflix’s Gunpowder Milkshake, so she’s clearly capable when it comes to handling the rigors of the action genre.
