Ghosted, starring Chris Evans and Ana de Armas, has generated buzz with its relatable concept showcasing the hardships of dating while taking viewers on a visually stunning and seemingly globetrotting adventure.
The film follows Cole (Chris Evans) as he tries to solve why Sadie (Ana de Armas), the woman he fell madly in love with after their first date, ghosted him by traveling to England in an attempt to acquire some information. This quest would lead to Cole discovering Sadie’s double life as an international spy.
Ghosted also stars Adrien Brody, Mike Moh, Marwan Kenzari, Tim Blake Nelson, Tiya Sircar, Anna Deavere Smith, and Tate Donovan, among others. Since its release on Apple TV this week, on April 21, the breathtaking visuals, supposedly in the Middle East and England, captivated audiences and urged them to gather more information about the film’s location.
The Filming Locations for Ghosted
Despite some of the locations of Ghosted being said to have taken place in England and the Middle East, according to the movie’s production designer Claude Paré and visual effects coordinator J.D. Schwalm, most of it was shot in Atlanta and New Mexico.
Decider reports that during an interview with Paré, he expressed how difficult it was to build a set for a particular scene that included the famed Pakistani marketplace, Mingora Bazar. Paré stated while mentioning how production was able to make it work while filming in Atlanta,
“We built this wonderful market square in Atlanta, believe it or not. The facades are crooked and shabby and almost falling apart, as if they were built in medieval times. One of the background players was from that part of the world and she said it made her feel right at home.”
Paré continued the discussion by saying that one way production made their visuals of the various locations more believable was by adding living “props,” like goats and camels. Paré would add that other scenes displayed as being shot in the Middle East actually took place in New Mexico. The production designer said,
“We shot it in Atlanta but it looks like the Middle East, with goats and camels and every kind of unique visual we could find. That said, some of the exterior shots of the Middle Eastern desert were filmed in New Mexico—including the movie’s stand-out set piece, in which Ana de Armas drives a bus, backward, in a high-speed car chase.”
In the same interview, visual effects coordinator J.D. Schwalm would echo Paré sentiments of the project being primarily shot in Atlanta and New Mexico as he revealed that the visuals in the chase scene in Ghosted were a compilation of the two separate locations. He explained,
“The beginning and end of the 180 [chase scene] were done in New Mexico, where the stunt driver was actually able to crank it around. The middle of that turn, where they’re going out over the cliff edge, was done in Atlanta on a big six-axis motion platform. We put the bus on top of a rig and then rotated it around in front of a blue screen.”
In addition to Ghosted‘s filming locations taking place in Atlanta, and New Mexico, other scenes were shot in Washington D.C.
