Over the weekend, The Chainsmokers announced the title and release date for their upcoming Collage EP, while stating that an official music video for “Closer” would arrive on Monday. The concept for the new video expands on the lyrical narrative of “Closer,” offering up a visual representation of the post breakup hook-up from the song. The plot revisits the couple’s past, intercut with shots of Halsey “looking pretty in a hotel bar,” pairing the music with some rather literal visuals. We even get a glimpse of the mattress mentioned in the chorus. The aesthetic for “Closer” is generally NSFW, but it fits the theme of the song well.

The concept behind the “Closer” video is simple and well executed, and it’s nice to have an official visual companion to one of the biggest songs of the year.

Check it all out in the player above and be sure to stay tuned for The ChainsmokersCollage EP, as it’s due to drop on November 4.
