Lenny Kravitz has enlisted the help of Drake for his upcoming album, Black & White America, hitting stores August 30th.
Now don’t get me wrong, I like both Kravitz and Drake, but I’m not sure they sound good together. Titled Sunflower, the song feels very much like a Lenny Kravitz track, that is until Drake comes in. His verse feels a bit out of place on the funk rock track. It’s awkward, strange and truthfully, it kills an otherwise great song.
“I got on the phone with Drake for [‘Sunflower’] before he had even heard the track and he said, ‘Yeah, I’ll do it. I’m a fan and I love your work and I wouldlove to be on it.’ So that was cool,” Lenny told Billboard.
Bringing Drake in is clearly a ploy for more radio play, which is fine, but not if it’s going to ruin the song. Like I said, I’m a fan of both Kravitz and Drake, but these are two artists who shouldn’t be mixed. Why not bring in another big star but one that’s from the same genre as Kravitz? It just doesn’t make much sense to me.
