Who is FIFTY FIFTY, the K-Pop girl group on the ‘Barbie’ soundtrack?

K-Pop keeps expanding its wings in the West.

Albeit hailing all the way from South Korea, K-Pop has reached unimaginable heights of popularity and success, extending its influence to the Western sphere of the globe, and making its way into everyone’s homes in one way or another. While it may be controversial to attribute this phenomenon solely to specific groups, it is undeniably fair to acknowledge that this widespread influence of K-Pop wouldn’t be the same without the trailblazing presence of BTS and BLACKPINK – and FIFTY FIFTY might just be on its way of joining the roster.

Perhaps foreign to some fans of the genre, a new K-Pop girl group has been making waves in the genre after being featured in the upcoming soundtrack for Greta Gerwig’s highly anticipated film, Barbie. Despite K-Pop artists being frequently featured in cinema a few times – as exampled by Jimin’s recent track in Fast X – FIFTY FIFTY is making history as one of the youngest K-Pop groups to partake in such a large-scale production. If you’re curious about their identity, here’s all you need to know about these girls.

Who are FIFTY FIFTY?

Known for their infectious and adorable charm showcased in the smash hit “Cupid,” FIFTY FIFTY is a fresh-faced K-Pop group that burst onto the scene in November 2022. With just over six months in the industry, consisting of the talented quartet — Aran, Keena, Saena, and Sio — these girls have already achieved mind-boggling streaming numbers and accomplishments that most groups with their level of experience can only dream of.

Despite their relatively short time in the industry, FIFTY FIFTY is rapidly gaining global recognition on their path to stardom. What makes their success even more impressive is that they have achieved this without the backing of any of the “big three” entertainment companies, such as SM Entertainment, JYP Entertainment, or YG Entertainment. Instead, their remarkable journey began from the collaboration of ATTRAKT and Warner Company.

The group consists of members aged between 18 and 21 years old. Keena, the oldest member, and the main rapper, defies the typical belief that the oldest member should be the leader. Instead, the 19-year-old Saena takes on the position of the group’s main dancer and leader of the group. The two youngest members, Sio and Aran, both 18 years old, contribute as the main and lead vocalists, respectively.

FIFTY FIFTY’s mini album, titled The Fifty, is available on various platforms for your listening pleasure. While their future projects remain uncertain, as it’s unclear they will have a comeback before their contributions to the Barbie soundtrack. However, you can stay tuned on July 21 for their first venture into the Hollywood musical business.
