An 8.5ft-tall golden statue depicting a naked President Donald Trump has appeared inside a European Parliament building in Strasbourg, France, the Telegraph reports. This installation, which occupies one of the busiest intersections connecting the parliament facilities, is scheduled to remain on display until Thursday.
The sculpture, titled Orange Plague, is finished in 23-carat gold leaf and presents a striking image. It shows the President nude, holding a set of justice scales in one hand and a long golf club in the other. At the end of that club, you will find a golf ball designed to look like the world. Perhaps the most provocative element is the base of the statue, which portrays the President sitting on the shoulders of a smaller, clothed man who appears to be struggling under the weight.
The text on the plinth makes the artist’s intent very clear. It reads: “I am sitting on the back of a man. He is sinking under my burden. I will do anything to help him. Except stepping down from his back.”
Danish artist Jens Galschiot is the creator behind this piece, which he also refers to as the King of Injustice
Galschiot explained that the project was inspired by the classic story of The Emperor’s New Clothes. In that tale, a vain leader parades around naked, convinced he is wearing the finest garments because those around him are too fearful to speak the truth.
Galschiot believes the President represents a major threat to democratic values and the global effort to solve the climate crisis. He stated, “Trump represents one of the greatest threats to the rules-based world order, democratic values and our common effort to solving the climate crisis.” He added, “We must address this issue and stand together against such destructive influence.”
The exhibit was brought to the building by Per Clausen, a Left-wing Danish European Parliament member. When asked about how the President might react to the display, Clausen was dismissive of any potential backlash. He said, “If someone is so thin-skinned that they cannot tolerate this sculpture being exhibited in the European Parliament, then they have no place on the world stage.”
This is not the first time the statue has been seen in public. It previously appeared at the 30th United Nations Climate Change Conference in Brazil last year and was also featured during the Munich Security Conference in Germany earlier this year. The White House has not provided a response to the installation.
The artist has been handing out miniature versions of the sculpture to visitors as protest symbols. For those who can’t make it to Strasbourg, Galschiot has made the files available online so you can 3D print your own version at home.
This isn’t the only golden statue of the President to make headlines. In April, a 15ft statue known as Don Colossus was unveiled at his golf course in Miami. Unlike the Orange Plague, that sculpture shows the President fully clothed with his fist raised in the air. The President has also shared plans for two more giant golden statues to be installed at his future presidential library in Miami. Those plans were revealed through an AI-generated video he posted on Truth Social.
