A Florida couple received a surprise after what initially seemed like an ordinary flat turned into a roadside mystery involving an entire wrench lodged inside a vehicle’s tire. The bizarre incident was shared by TikTok creator Peter Petrella (@peterpetrella) in a video that has attracted roughly 158,000 views, stunning viewers with what roadside assistance workers discovered after removing the wheel.
Petrella began his video by recounting a text message he received from his fiancée while she was out getting her passport. “I got a text from my fiancée today,” he said. “She says, I have a flat tire.”
At first, the situation didn’t seem unusual. According to Petrella, his fiancée had been inside a passport office for several hours and returned to find the flat. Petrella assumed it happened because of Florida’s heavy traffic and frequent road construction, and thought it would be a routine fix.
Then the roadside assistance worker arrived
Petrella noted that the puncture itself wasn’t visible because the damaged portion of the tire rested on the ground. Only after the worker removed the tire did the true cause become apparent. Petrella recalled the technician’s reaction: “I have never seen anything like this before.” An entire wrench had become embedded in the tire.
The video later shows Petrella stopping to pick up comfort food for his fiancée, since she’d be stressed, before returning home to inspect the damage himself. In a lighthearted moment, he initially jokes about bringing home a rotisserie chicken before opting for popcorn chicken instead.
Once home, Petrella examines the tire on camera, revealing a metal wrench protruding from the rubber. The footage shows the tool extending outward while much of it remains buried inside the tire. “Oh, my god. You’re joking,” Petrella says in disbelief while inspecting the damage. He added that the embedded tool extended far deeper into the tire than it appeared.
The unusual find sparked hundreds of reactions from viewers who shared their own stories of strange objects ending up inside tires. One commenter lamented, “And the tread on the tire is still good 😭 that’s the worst,” highlighting the frustration of losing a relatively new tire to freak damage. Another said, “And I thought PA roads were bad. That’s insane.”
Others said the incident wasn’t as rare as it seemed. “That happened to my husband once!!!” another viewer wrote alongside a photo showing a wrench lodged in a tire. Another Florida resident chimed in noting that once, her husband had an entire vape pen stuck in his tire relaying an equally unusual experience.
