Woman got a flat tire and drove to the repair shop. hen the mechanic showed her what caused it — and she had a lot of questions

"Well, that tire screwed"

A woman recently shared her experience in a TikTok video about getting a flat tire and bringing her car to a repair shop to have it fixed. What she found out at the shop, however, apparently turned an ordinary flat tire situation into something far more unusual.

TikTok creator Christina, who goes by @christilashea on the platform, posted a video showing her damaged tire and explaining what the mechanic told her when she arrived. The video has since drawn over 3M views and over 1,500 comments from viewers.

In the video, Christina said, “I got a flat tire the other day. Anyways, this is the culprit, right? I went today to get the tire changed, and the dude says, ‘Oh, that looks like a screwdriver.'” She then turned the tire over in the video to show the camera, and the end of a flathead screwdriver appeared to be sticking out of the rim on the other side.

A screwdriver can turn a simple tire patch into a full replacement

The comment section of Christina’s video filled up quickly, with many viewers expressing disbelief at what she ran over. “How the f— did that happen LOL” one commenter asked. Another joked, “looks like it has been hammered 🔨 y’all.” A third commenter wrote, “Yeah you’re gonna need a new wheel and tire, but hey free screw driver at least.”

Not everyone was just there for the humor, though, as a user commented, “Change tyre ❌ Change entire wheel ✅.” Another commenter wrote, “well that tire screwed.”

According to a mechanic who commented on a similar post, this kind of incident may not be as rare as it sounds. “Literally came through last week,” the mechanic wrote, alongside a photo of another tire with a screwdriver embedded in it from their own shop. Flat tires can also put drivers in unexpected situations like this woman who noticed her tire was flat found herself dealing with a stranger who insisted she get out of her car.

When it comes to cost, a standard flat tire repair, typically a patch or a plug, generally runs between $20 and $50, according to Motor1. If the tire or rim sustains significant damage, a full replacement is likely necessary rather than a simple repair. A Reddit user posted to the r/tires subreddit after his wife ran over a screwdriver in the road, asking whether the tire could be repaired or needed to be replaced. “We found a good chunk in her tire,” he wrote. “Is this something we could repair or should we replace the tire?” Multiple commenters responded with similar advice. “This is unsafe and needs replacement,” said one. Another agreed, writing, “You can clearly see the threads, dude. It’s finished!”

Tire replacement costs are reportedly higher than repair costs. According to J.D. Power, drivers can expect to pay somewhere between $100 and $500 for a single tire, including the cost of the tire itself and the installation fee. The total may vary based on the vehicle’s make and model and the type of tires required.

Not all tire trouble ends at the shop, as three Florida teens who stopped to help someone change a tire ended up having to call 911 after discovering something far more serious. While Christina didn’t reveal the final repair cost in her video, the damage visible in the footage suggests a replacement would have been necessary due to the screwdriver penetrating the rim.
