The announcement confirms multiple rumors suggesting that Treyarch was working on the game for the Wii U. Including one from last month that came from a QA tester who specifically mentioned the Wii U version on his resume.
Instead of just showing a trailer for Black Ops 2, Treyarch used the opportunity to demo a local 2-player match with bots live on stage. One of the most interesting aspects of the live demo was that while one player used the TV screen to play the match, the other played on the Wii U GamePad, which completely eliminated split-screen from the equation. It was also confirmed that single player games can also be played entirely on the GamePad.
Although it was not shown during the demo, Activision also announced that the GamePad could be used during single player and online play as a mini-map, to activate score streaks, and to change the player’s loadout selection mid-game.
Aside from the Wii U GamePad, Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 will also support the Wii U Pro Controller, and the old school (but vastly superior) Wii Remote/Nunchuk setup.
Activision also announced that the game will run in native 1080p and at 60fps on the Wii U.
Treyarch has not yet confirmed if Black Ops 2 will be available for sale when the Wii U launches on November 18th, but Nintendo has the title listed on their launch/launch window schedule.
