Cape Verde hotel guests got more than they bargained for when this EasyJet pilot hit the bar

Why Cape Verde guests got a refund.

An EasyJet pilot has been suspended after he was found walking around a luxury hotel in Cape Verde completely naked while drunk. The incident happened at the five-star Melia Dunas Beach Resort and Spa on August 4, where the pilot was staying before his scheduled flight back to the UK.

The captain had been drinking at the hotel bar for several hours when the situation took an unexpected turn. According to reports, his drinking session lasted well into the early morning hours before things went wrong.

Hotel guests at the resort certainly got more than they expected during their stay, though inappropriate behavior on flights and at travel destinations has become increasingly common in recent incidents. According to Express, after spending hours drinking at the hotel bar, the pilot stripped off all his clothing at 2:30 am and walked through the reception area completely naked. He then continued his nude walk through the gym and spa areas of the resort.

EasyJet grounds pilot and launches investigation

The pilot was supposed to operate a flight from Cape Verde back to London Gatwick airport on August 6, about 36 hours after the incident. However, EasyJet immediately suspended him from duty and found a replacement pilot to take over the flight, avoiding the kind of dramatic in-flight disruptions that have plagued other airlines recently.

The airline acted quickly once it learned about what happened at the hotel. An EasyJet spokesman explained their response to the situation in a statement to the media.

“As soon as we were made aware, the pilot was immediately stood down from duty, in line with our procedures, pending an investigation,” the spokesman said. “The safety of our passengers and crew is easyJet’s highest priority.”

The flight route from London Gatwick to Cape Verde is one of EasyJet’s longest from England. The journey covers 2,332 nautical miles and takes about six hours to complete. This makes it a significant route for the airline, serving passengers traveling to the popular holiday destination off the west coast of Africa.

The incident raises questions about airline policies regarding crew behavior during layovers and rest periods. Airlines have strict rules about alcohol consumption and professional conduct for pilots and crew members, especially when they are scheduled to operate flights within a certain time period.

EasyJet has not released the name of the pilot involved in the incident. The investigation into what happened at the Cape Verde hotel is ongoing, and it remains unclear what disciplinary action the pilot might face following the completion of the inquiry.
