A Connecticut homeowner reportedly stopped a guardrail installation by lying down in front of the construction crew. The incident gained attention after a contractor named Rick posted a video of the encounter on TikTok. The video appears to show the crew stuck in place as the woman refuses to move off the pavement, as reported by The Nerd Stash.
The video shows the homeowner stretched out on the pavement directly in the path of the work. She stays there while the crew tries to continue their job, leading to an exchange between the workers and the homeowner. Rick captioned the video by asking whether other contractors deal with the same problem.
He added, “Everyone’s an engineer when you’re working in front of their house.” The disagreement appears to center on the guardrail’s placement near the woman’s property line, as she seems to believe the project is in the wrong spot. Meanwhile, the crew appears to be working from its own installation plan.
She really didn’t want that guardrail anywhere near her parking lot
At one point, the homeowner questions the workers’ authority to install without her permission. “I can’t sit on my property?” she asks. “You didn’t ask me to sign anything.” The workers don’t seem to have an answer that satisfies her.
The crew tries to explain their position, but the woman remains firm. They eventually warn her that they’ll call the police if she refuses to move out of the way. However, the crew insists it is at the correct address, despite the woman’s claim that the project is misplaced.
The homeowner eventually stands up and walks toward her car, claiming she is waiting for a phone call that will prove her point. However, she argues that the guardrail should not block her parking area. “This is not gonna go across my parking lot. There’s no reason for it,” the homeowner says.
The footage shows several railing components and a guideline already on the ground, suggesting the crew may have been close to finishing before the protest began. However, the video does not show whether the phone call came through or whether police ever arrived. Property standoffs have played out on TikTok before, as one buyer said the previous couple refused to leave after taking her money.
Commenters on the video appear split over whether the homeowner was justified or simply getting in the way of a road safety project. Some viewers blamed poor communication about the property boundaries, as the woman says nobody asked her to sign off on the work. Another homeowner took her fight online after finding an alleged scammer listing her condo on the same app.
