The retail uniform somehow acts like a magnet for people who seem to have completely detached from basic social etiquette. The moment you step behind the counter, certain customers stop seeing a human being and see an omnipotent concierge obligated to solve every minor inconvenience in their life.
Even then, workers fully expect questions about where the fitting rooms are or complain about an expired coupon. What they never quite prepare for is a stranger marching up to them like a toddler and order them to provide private electronic valet services on demand.
But retail worker and TikTok creator Myah Elliott (@yomrants) lived to see that day. An entitled customer allegedly walked up with zero manners and an outrageous assumption about store amenities, turning her ordinary shift into pure comedy. She broke down the jaw-dropping interaction in a quick, hilarious TikTok rant that has pulled in over 18,000 views.
An entitled customer acted like it was his first day on earth
The bizarre moment allegedly kicked off without a greeting, a question, or a single polite pleasantry. Out of nowhere, a customer reportedly strode straight up to Elliott’s counter, thrust his dying mobile device toward her face, and launched an outright directive: “Put this on a charger.”
“No please, no thank you, not even a ‘Do you have a charger I could borrow?’ None of that,” Elliott recounted, still baffled by the audacity. But the store doesn’t operate as a public electronics recharging station, and she didn’t have cords lying around to lend out. So, she politely informed him that she couldn’t fulfill his command.
To her surprise, the man looked at her as if she had just spoken to him in a foreign language. “He goes, ‘What do you mean you don’t have a charger?’ I’m like, ‘I don’t have a charger back here for you, unfortunately. We don’t keep an extra one back here.’ And he goes, ‘Well, how do you charge your phone?’”
The customer learnt retail workers don’t live at work
Apparently, the customer had operated under the wild assumption that employees exist in a state of suspended animation behind the register. He was acting as if employees sleep beneath the cash drawers and keeping full home utilities wired under the counter.
Naturally, Elliott was stunned by his utter lack of logic, and delivered the exact dose of sarcasm the question begged for. “Well, I don’t live here, do I?” she fired back. “I charge my phone when I go home, when I get in my car. I don’t bring it in here.”
The revelation that retail associates actually have homes, personal boundaries, and outside lives reportedly short-circuited the man’s brain. He allegedly stood frozen across from the counter, speechless and bewildered that his dead battery wasn’t an all-hands-on-deck emergency for store staff.
“He couldn’t believe what I was telling him,” Elliot revealed. She also hilariously remarked, “Is this your first day on Earth, buddy?” before ending the video. The story is a painful reminder of how often public-facing workers are treated as automated appliances rather than people.
