DoorDash driver’s delivery instructions changed 3 times while he was standing on the porch. The last message the customer sent said, ‘next time, don’t stop at the door’

This is why nobody wants the late-night delivery shift.

A DoorDash driver working a late night shift says he had one of the strangest and most frightening deliveries of his life after being sent to a house that looked like no one had lived in it for years. The story, which was shared on TikTok through the horror narration account @scaredwithjess, has been getting a lot of attention online for how unsettling it is.

The driver said the incident happened last fall. He had picked up an order from a small fast food place just after 11 p.m. and was trying to get one last delivery done before heading home. As he drove further out, the streets got darker and the houses were farther apart. When he finally arrived at the address, the house looked empty.

There were no lights on, no car in sight, the grass was overgrown, and weeds were pushing through the cracks in the walkway. He double checked the number on the mailbox and the one by the door, and they matched.

This kind of thing is why so many drivers quit dashing at night

He grabbed the bag and went up to the porch. The front door was not fully closed. It was just slightly open. The delivery instructions on the app still said to leave the food at the door, so he bent down to set the bag beside the mat.

Then his phone buzzed. The instructions had changed. They now said to bring it inside. He looked up and noticed the door had opened a little wider on its own. He called out, and no one answered. Then another message came through the app saying “you can come in.”

He started backing away. That is when he heard what sounded like bare feet running across old wood floors inside the house, starting from far back and moving fast toward the front door. He took a quick photo of the delivery for proof, set the bag down, and ran to his car. While he sat there shaking, the app updated again.

It said “hand it directly to customer.” He had not handed it to anyone. Then he saw the front door slowly opening wider. A figure appeared in the doorway. He described it as too tall, bent in an odd way, with uneven shoulders and one arm hanging too low. He said the eyes looked wide, pale, and flat with no blinking. He started the car and left. After he got back on the main road, he called DoorDash support. While he was on hold, the customer sent a message on the order that read, “next time, don’t stop at the door.”

Real dangers for delivery drivers are well documented, even if most of them do not involve anything supernatural. DoorDash has also found itself in the middle of some unusual and uncomfortable situations, like when a driver was put in the position of having to fulfill a humiliating customer request just to complete a delivery.

One TikTok user going by @fw.mackkk went viral after sharing a story about a late night delivery to a rural area where a customer asked her to hand the food directly to him, saying “I just want some human contact, I don’t have any friends.” When she arrived, he pulled out a butterfly knife. She locked her doors and drove away.

In December 2025, a DoorDash driver in Indiana was caught on camera appearing to spray a substance on a customer’s food bag before leaving. The couple who received the order became ill, and a criminal investigation was opened. DoorDash confirmed it had ended its relationship with the driver. The platform has also been in the news for other reasons lately, including when Trump weighed in on a McDonald’s DoorDash stunt and called it tacky while explaining why he keeps doing it anyway.

As for the story shared on @scaredwithjess, the driver said that two days after the delivery, he drove back to the house in the daytime. He said it looked even worse in the light. One window was boarded up, mail was jammed in the slot, and a shutoff notice from the power company was taped to the front door.

When he zoomed in on the notice with his phone, he saw the power had been cut off three months earlier. While he was still sitting there looking at it, his DoorDash app buzzed with a new order to the same address. He declined it immediately. He said he never did DoorDash at night again.
