Since arriving on the scene around a decade ago, Batwoman has made quite the impact on the DC Universe and amassed a rather generous cult following. Having been handled by the likes of Greg Rucka, J.H. Williams III and Marc Andreyko, the adventures of Kate Kane have explored the darker side of Gotham City, often dealing with supernatural and occult related elements.

So, even though she plays a vital role in the current run of Detective Comics, her devoted followers have been clamoring for another solo series ever since the last one came to an abrupt end a few years back. And, most fortunate for them, another volume kicked off earlier this year. While not contradicting what’s been established in ‘Tec, the new series has found the right balance between the tone set by the aforementioned title and the spookier stuff that we’ve just come to expect from tales starring the Batwoman.

Speaking of which, those among you that enjoy a good scare won’t want to miss the latest installment in the “Fear and Loathing” arc because, as it so happens, the Scarecrow himself is back. Maybe it’s just me, but it looks like the creative team may have looked to the trippier scenes from the Batman: Arkham games for inspiration – and that’s not a bad thing at all. Heck, if they can pull off even a fraction of that sort of surrealism – and the gallery above shows that they likely have – then it looks like we’ll have one truly immersive reading experience to look forward to.

For more, be sure to check out the official synopsis below:

“Fear and Loathing” part three! Drugged by the Scarecrow’s fear toxin and trapped in an unrelenting desert, Batwoman must find her way free of her fears as she avoids capture by the Many Hands of Death and her father’s agent, Colony Prime.

Batwoman #9 arrives in comic shops next Wednesday, November 15.
