A 13-year-old foster child was beaten to death by his foster father in Pennsylvania last weekend. The boy died after hours of abuse in the family’s home in Drums, Pennsylvania. Police arrested both foster parents in connection with the child’s death.
Cesar Delgadillo, 39, was arrested first on Monday after police found the boy covered in marks and cuts. The child was rushed to Lehigh Valley Hospital in Hazleton but died about an hour later. Virginia Delgadillo, 34, was arrested the next day after police reviewed more evidence.
According to People, Pennsylvania State Police found home security footage that showed the horrific crime taking place. The cameras in the family’s own home captured Cesar beating the child and forcing a backscratcher into his mouth. The video evidence proved crucial in building the case against both parents.
Disturbing footage reveals extent of abuse
The security cameras recorded the abuse happening from late Sunday night into Monday morning. This case of recorded domestic violence echoes other shocking abuse cases that have been documented, showing how evidence can be crucial in securing justice. Police said the footage showed Virginia watching the beating before going to sleep. She did not try to stop the violence or help the child during the attack.
The video showed disturbing scenes of violence in the home. According to a police report, “The video captures large amounts of blood being deposited on the floor during the assaults.” The footage also showed some of the couple’s other foster children trying to clean up blood from the house after the beating.
Two of the foster children woke up Virginia early Monday morning. She then found the 13-year-old boy not responding in his basement bedroom. Police arrived at the home soon after and took the boy to the hospital, where he died.
Police say Cesar began abusing the boy after two other foster children claimed the teen had sexually assaulted them. The family had five foster children in total, ranging from 5 to 16 years old. The four surviving children are now in state custody while the case moves forward.
Cesar faces serious charges, including homicide, child endangerment, evidence tampering, and obstruction. Virginia has been charged with five counts of endangering children’s welfare, four counts of corruption of minors, and one count of tampering with evidence. Both parents are waiting for court hearings later this month. This Pennsylvania case joins a growing list of notorious true crime cases that have captured public attention and highlighted the importance of child protection.
