A woman in Georgia confronted her doctor after she claimed he laughed with a nurse about her struggle to provide a urine sample during a physical exam. The patient, who goes by @lia.living on TikTok, recorded the confrontation and posted the video online, according to The Nerd Stash.
Lia said the incident took place at a medical clinic in Suwanee, Georgia. She explained that she couldn’t provide a sample even after drinking an entire bottle of water and following all the staff’s instructions. She noted that she was dehydrated and on her period at the time.
She also said she had used the restroom before she arrived for her appointment. While she was dealing with this frustration, she claimed the doctor found the situation funny and laughed about it with a nurse. She alleged they seemed unaware she was still nearby and could hear the conversation.
She walked straight back in and asked if they were talking about her
Lia stated that the doctor had been dismissive during the appointment, but hearing him allegedly talk about her was the last straw. In the video, she confronted him and his staff about their behavior. She called the alleged laughter “very racist and very discriminatory,” and asked whether it was funny that she could not give seven drops of urine.
The doctor appears to deny the claim as he walks toward the camera, and Lia pulls back when he seems to reach toward her. He later says he is sorry. However, he does not appear to explain what he and the nurse allegedly laughed about, leaving many viewers with more questions than answers.
Earlier in the video, Lia appears to be crying in her car as she recounts the visit. She claimed he questioned whether she understood her own diagnosis during the exam. She also appeared to tell the nurse that her conduct was unprofessional and that she needed to do better.
The account comes from Lia’s video, and the doctor’s and nurse’s side of the exchange could not be verified. The clinic does not appear to have issued a public response to the allegations.
Other patients have recently alleged dismissive treatment tied to race, including a pharmacist who claimed hospital staff ignored her severe chest pain because of the color of her skin. Those claims also come from the patient’s own account.
Recording in medical settings has drawn scrutiny online before, including the case of an Ohio doctor known as Dr. Roxy, who had her medical license revoked after livestreaming surgeries on TikTok. Lia’s video was filmed by a patient, not staff.
At the end of the video, Lia appears to tell the front desk she will not be back and asks staff to send her blood work results once they are ready.
