Group of eighth-graders allegedly sneak into Walmart, finds the guard sleeping and begin making TikToks. Then they hear a loud ‘Hey’

This could’ve gone so wrong.

Viral internet stunts frequently tempt adolescents into testing boundaries. But an ill-conceived overnight stay inside a Walmart reportedly brought a swift reality check for a group of eighth-graders. Their attempt to replicate a trending online challenge allegedly ended with a run-in with overnight security and an abrupt exit from the premises.

TikTok creator Vyne (@828deev) shared the storytime video, recounting the alleged incident from her middle school days. She explained that her then-group was inspired by the popular trend where creators hid inside commercial department stores past closing hours. So, Vyne reportedly agreed to join four friends in attempting to spend the night inside a local Walmart.

After allegedly concealing themselves in different corners of the store until closing, the group explored the dark retail floor and also reportedly discovered an asleep security guard in an office. However, their sneaking was cut short later that night when the guard reportedly confronted them in the aisles, leaving the creator in tears while her peers scattered.

Five eighth-graders allegedly hid themselves at a Walmart past closing

Recounting the event while doing her makeup, Vyne explained that a friend persuaded her to sneak into Walmart with the group. So, she packed an overnight bag and coordinated with the group to tell their respective parents that they were sleeping over at each other’s houses.

Once inside, the eighth-graders reportedly split up to avoid staff during the evening closing sweep. “I go and wait into the changing rooms, because I don’t know why, but they didn’t check them that night,” Vyne claimed. “After it says that they’re announcing that the store’s going to be closing, we go and hide. Like, we go down each aisle. And I remember my friend hid into the waters. My other friend… was just hiding around in the bathroom.”

Once the main overhead lights shut off, the group regrouped to explore the empty sales floor. During their walk, they peeked into a store office and allegedly noticed a security officer asleep at his station. Relieved of immediate oversight, the teens then reportedly roamed the aisles, recording dance clips on their phones.

Despite the novelty, the environment proved unsettling. “It was so scary,” Vyne recalled. “Like, I felt like everything was creepier at night because there was no lights on, there was nobody there.” However, the group’s late-night excursion allegedly unraveled abruptly when a loud shout echoed across the sales floor.

An unexpected confrontation reportedly ended the overnight plan

“We’re just making TikToks and dancing and s***, and then we hear this loud a**, like, ‘Hey!’” Vyne said, describing the moment the guard allegedly appeared in the aisle. While her four companions took off running, Vyne said she froze and began crying as the employee allegedly questioned what she was doing in the building.

Vyne then claimed that she had gotten lost and that her parents had already left for the night. Afterward, she waited for her mother to pick her up and went home. She also admitted to cutting ties with the group after they criticized her for not running away.

The incident shows how quickly social media influences children and young adults, and sometimes, push them to risk-taking behaviour. When children and young adolescents watch influencers successfully pulling off pranks or challenges, they tend to underestimate institutional risks and overestimate the social rewards of participation (via JMIR).

So, for young people swept up in digital trends, the divide between edited online bravado and real-world consequences often closes the moment the lights go out. Thankfully, Vyne reportedly chose to end the stunt as soon as the guard caught her, and she safely made it home without any disciplinary action.
