Group of NY women allegedly start beating a young woman outside of Kings Plaza Mall – one of them was her mom

Bystanders begged the group to stop.

A video circulating online appears to show a group of adults attacking a young woman outside the Kings Plaza Mall in Brooklyn. The footage seems to capture several women pinning the young woman to the ground and dragging her by her hair. Bystanders can reportedly be heard yelling for them to stop, according to The Nerd Stash.

The video was posted to the r/PublicFreakout community on Reddit, where the uploader claimed the young woman had taken $5,000 from her mother. According to the post, her mother, her sister, and several friends confronted her at Kings Plaza Mall. The post alleges the group started hitting and kicking her before the recording even started; in the video, the young woman could also be seen to have lost a sock and shoe in the process.

The video appears to show the group holding the young woman down on the ground as she tries to break free. As the struggle continues, the young woman made several attempts to flee, after which she was pinned to the glass wall of the mall. During this time, the alleged mother and friends held her down and waited for authorities to arrive. People in the crowd also seemed confused about why a mother would let other people jump on her daughter.

The group kept insisting they were doing their job as parents

The group did not appear to back down. They argued with the onlookers, insisting the crowd did not know what the young woman had allegedly done. The women maintained that they were doing their job as parents, even as they seemed to keep restraining her.

When a police officer arrived at the Kings Plaza Mall, the women appeared to explain their side of the story. They reportedly told the officer that the young woman had stolen $5,000. The conflict then shifts from a physical struggle to a tense conversation with law enforcement.

The uploader claims that police eventually arrested the daughter, while the mother and the rest of the group left without facing any charges. Onlookers appeared to reject the group’s attempt to frame the violence as a parenting tactic. However, the women seemed to stand by that explanation throughout the video, as the argument with shoppers at the Kings Plaza Mall reportedly continued.

New York law treats stealing property worth more than $3,000 as grand larceny in the third degree, a class D felony. If prosecutors charged and convicted her of the alleged $5,000 theft, she could face up to seven years in state prison. However, prison time is not automatic, as a judge could also impose probation, fines, or restitution instead.
