This white wine aficionado claims a New York City restaurant gaslit her into thinking her favorite drink was being served to her at the wrong temperature. Hailey Sani (@haileysani) has been a content creator since she was 12. She has a YouTube channel with over a million subscribers and over 400,000 TikTok followers.
This time, Sani used her platform to call out the server for the wine. According to her story, she says she ordered a glass of white wine. However, the wine was served at room temperature. She says she asked for a cold glass, and the server said she’d put the drink on ice and bring it back.
Sani tasted the wine and remarked that it didn’t seem any colder. In response, she said the server allegedly told her that white wine is supposed to be served at room temperature. “Now I just feel like you’re f—— with me,” Sani says to viewers. She notes that she had “never met” a glass of white wine meant to be drunk at room temperature, so she asked the server if she was sure.

Sani said she decided to get a cocktail instead, but she still got charged for the wine. “Am I being punked right now?” she asked. “Like, am I overreacting? Do you guys think I’m overreacting?” She says she asked the server to take the wine off the bill, and when she did, she got the “nastiest, meanest look” in return.
The viewers took Sani’s side, with one culinary student supporting her claim that white wine should be served cold. “White wine SHOULD be served cold because the temperature directly alters how our taste buds perceive acidity and for the evaporated alcohol to NOT give you an unpleasant nostril burn,” they explained.
They added: “There are some scenarios where it can be served warm, like if it’s really aged (at least a decade or longer), oxidized (purposely more dried and nutty), or mulled (boiled). But rather than those options, you shouldn’t be served room temperature white wine. (Pro tip: any spirit or alcohol with milky taste or ingredient should also be kept in the fridge to keep the diary safe and red wine can be kept in room temperature).”
According to Three Choirs Vineyards, white wines are generally recommended at slightly above fridge temperature. The lighter and sweeter the wine, the colder the serving temperature can be. However, the site suggests not serving white wine below 42 degrees Fahrenheit, as chilling it further might mask some of the wine’s flavors. On the other hand, fuller-bodied wines like Chardonnay are served slightly warmer, to maximize flavor. Otherwise, chill this wine in the fridge for 20-30 minutes.
