President Donald Trump took to Truth Social on Sunday to criticize Fox News for the coverage it has been giving Democratic candidates in the period leading up to the midterm elections. He said the network is putting on the opponents of Republican candidates far too often. Those Republicans, he wrote, are people that love our Country and have Great Policies and Ideas.
Trump described the candidates as American Patriots who are being absolutely ‘blurred out’ by the Media. He accused the network of “doing little to help” them and stated that this is the only reason this Race is close, if it is indeed close. In his words: “These American Patriots are being absolutely ‘blurred out’ by the Media, and Fox is doing little to help. That’s the only reason this Race is close, if it is indeed close.”
Mediaite pointed out that the message appeared hours after Fox News host Larry Kudlow spoke with the president in a phone-in segment and offered strong praise for his recent work. Kudlow said he thinks Trump is on a roll and described the campaigning as relentless and Herculean.
Trump’s schedule of rallies and the Democratic guests featured on Fox News
Kudlow told Trump that he is turning the tide, getting voters out, and raising enthusiasm. He added that the economy is booming, the country is the hottest in the world, stocks are doing great, drug prices are coming down, and oil is flowing through the Persian Gulf. Kudlow said that in the last month Trump may have turned this whole thing around.
Trump replied that he has worked very hard. He pointed to the 14 rallies he has held in nine days and said it is a lot. The exchange underscored the volume of events he has been holding while the control of the House and Senate remains undecided.
Fox News has recently interviewed several Democratic candidates. Abdul El-Sayed, who is running for Senate in Michigan, appeared twice. Rep. Debbie Dingell, a Michigan Democrat, also spoke about El-Sayed. Charles Booker, the Democratic candidate seeking the Kentucky Senate seat held by Mitch McConnell, was another guest. Rob Sand, running for governor in Iowa, appeared as well. This is not the first time Trump has slammed Fox for hosting Democrats who criticize him.
Trump raised a related complaint last week. He said Fox News was promoting Democrats in a bid to be politically correct. His Sunday post continued that criticism as he moves between states to support Republican candidates who face close races.
Over the past week alone, he has held rallies in six different states. He was expected to head back to Michigan on Sunday. In that state’s Senate contest, El-Sayed was narrowly leading Republican Mike Rogers. Trump has also aimed a late-night Truth Social rant at the network before.
