Bill Maher defends his second private dinner at the White House. Days later, Trump bashes him on Truth Social and says he’s not welcome back

The President unleashed a 1323-word rant.

President Donald Trump issued a lengthy Truth Social post on Sunday night criticizing comedian Bill Maher and stating that further contact would be useless. The post came two days after Maher used his HBO program to defend accepting a second private dinner at the White House.

During Friday’s episode, Maher addressed the criticism he received for meeting Trump again. He said, “Yeah, I did it again, b–ches! I know! I’m the bag guy because I go and say face-to-face to the man the things you write in articles he’ll never read, but okay. You know what? F–k you. I like these dinners.” Maher told viewers he prefers raising issues directly with Trump rather than through written coverage the president may never see.

The two had dined together earlier this month, with ESPN host Stephen A. Smith also present. Maher later described the conversation positively on his show, saying Trump “does listen. When he’s in that White House, he looks you in the eye, he never interrupts, he never gets mad, he listens.”

Trump’s post reviews the meetings and disputes Maher’s on-air remarks

Trump opened his 1,323-word message by calling Maher a “COMPLETE AND TOTAL LOSER” with a low-rated show on what he described as an equally low-rated HBO. He wrote that the network once offered quality programming but that those days are gone and that it is no longer “HOT.”

He accused Maher of lying about illegal voters in California, writing that “Just in the last few days alone, they found 20,000, and the number could easily go to over 1,000,000.” Trump said he would not spend time fact-checking other statements because Maher was not worth the effort.

The president recounted how Chuck LaBella and Kid Rock had contacted him repeatedly to arrange the meetings. He wrote that after the first dinner Maher quickly asked to return, and that the second session lasted roughly two hours. Trump said everyone left happy, though he personally learned nothing and considered the time wasted. Maher has separately detailed his four-hour dinner with Trump.

He noted that Maher had been friendly after the initial dinner before returning to his usual approach on television. Trump wrote that he understood this pattern and did not take it personally, adding that Maher must cater to his audience. He also said he had told Maher during one of the visits that he is a major pothead and needs to stop for his health. Trump had previously posted a 490-word social media rant about Maher.

Trump described press secretary Karoline Leavitt as a “GREAT” guest who defended him effectively despite facing what he called repeated falsehoods. He closed by instructing Maher, “Don’t call anymore. It’s useless,” and asked that LaBella stop calling to claim Maher loves and respects him.

Trump wrote that Maher is afraid to acknowledge how well the country is running or how poorly Democrats have performed, and that he would encourage Republicans to stop covering the show. Maher has said in the past that Trump can say whatever he wants and that he remains glad the two are speaking.
