It’s undeniable that Harley Quinn is currently one of the hottest commodities in all of comics. Thanks to the success of 2016’s feature film Suicide Squad, it’s probably safe to say she was the most cosplayed character for that calendar year and we can only hope that translates into more comic books sales for the wonderful series written by Jimmy Palmiotti and Amanda Conner.
Once this jazz involving the Joker is well behind us, expect a welcome surprise this April when Paul Dini (yes, the very man who co-created her for Batman: The Animated Series a quarter century ago) comes aboard to assist Palmiotti in writing ongoing backups. Furthermore, artist Brett Blevins is set to join them on a regular basis.
Speaking of which, here’s a synopsis:
“Deadly Sin” part one! The twisted Harley Sinn’s been released from prison, and she’s looking to hurt Harley in a whole new way…by going after somebody she loved and lost! And to make this issue extra-unmissable, a brand-new backup story begins, set in Harley’s earliest days with the Joker—and co-written by one of Harley’s original creators, Paul Dini! “Harley Loves Joker” kicks off as Harley makes the biggest mistake of her burgeoning criminal career…accidentally revealing the location of Mistah J’s hideout!
I’m most interested to see how “Harley Loves Joker” will juxtapose the currently running “Joker Loves Harley” arc and what other nuggets may be uncovered from their past. Furthermore, Conner’s stylish cover art causes me to question if Harley will be going back to the red and black hair coloring and, to be quite honest, I hope she does. Or they just didn’t want to stray from that color palette for artistic sake. Time will tell.
Harley Quinn #17 arrives in comic shops on April 5.
