‘Hate! Him!’: Paul Simon’s daughter makes her disgust for Richard Gere crystal clear as he demolishes her childhood

Childhood home, broken promise.

Paul Simon’s daughter Lulu has spoken out against Richard Gere after he sold her childhood home to developers who plan to tear it down. The 30-year-old singer used her Instagram Stories on Tuesday, July 8, to express her anger about the Pretty Woman star’s decision to sell the property for development.

Lulu claims that Gere made a promise to her family when he bought the house from her famous parents in 2022. She says he agreed to take care of the land as part of the purchase deal. However, she does not provide more details about this supposed agreement between Gere and her family.

According to People, Lulu made her feelings very clear about the actor, who has previously expressed discomfort with aspects of his Hollywood career. “Just in case anyone was wondering if I still hate Richard Gere – I do!” she wrote. She added that Gere “bought my childhood home” and “promised he would take care of the land as a condition of his purchase.” The post continued with “Hate! Him!” written over a photo.

Richard Gere sells Connecticut home for $10.75 million

Richard Gere and his wife, Alejandra, bought the New Canaan, Connecticut, property from Paul Simon and Edie Brickell in 2022 for $10.8 million. The couple then sold the house in October 2024 for $10.75 million. The sale happened as part of their move to Madrid, Spain, where Alejandra is originally from.

The historic 1930s home is now scheduled to be torn down to make room for nine new houses on the 32-acre property, highlighting how celebrity real estate dealings can sometimes have unexpected consequences. Lulu Simon claims that Gere never actually moved into the house after buying it from her parents. She says he just sold it to developers who will divide the land into separate building plots.

In the second slide, Lulu wrote a harsh message directed at Gere. “I hope my dead pets buried in that backyard haunt you until you descend into a slow and unrelenting madness,” she wrote. The caption was placed over an old photo that appeared to show Gere with cats and dogs that belonged to Lulu when she was a child.

The Gere family moved to Spain so that Alejandra could be closer to her family and culture. Richard told Vanity Fair Spain in April 2024 that his wife had been generous in giving him six years living in his world, so it was fair for him to give her time living in hers. The couple shares two young sons, Alexander and James, aged 6 and 5. Despite the move to Spain, Alejandra has said they plan to return to the United States in a few years.

Before the house was torn down, salvage experts from Hudson Valley House Parts worked to save some of the architectural features from the property. The company shared details about their work on Instagram in May, explaining how they spent a month at the estate saving historic pieces that could be used again. A representative for Richard Gere did not respond to requests for comment about Lulu Simon’s accusations.
