‘I don’t know what I’m allowed to say’: Emilia Clarke gets her first taste of MCU secrecy on ‘Secret Invasion’ red carpet

Welcome to the Marvel universe, Emilia!

You would think that Emilia Clarke, the Mother of Dragons herself, would be used to keeping big spoilers under her hat after spending years as the lead of Game of Thrones, once the biggest TV show on the planet. And yet it seems that the pressures of maintaining Marvel’s secrets are far greater than anything Clarke suffered in Westeros.

Clarke is making her MCU debut in the incoming Disney Plus series Secret Invasion. Speaking on the red carpet for the show’s premiere in Los Angeles these weekend, the British actress was asked to share a few words about her character. While she got as far as offering their name, Clarke then broke down as she worried she had already said too much.

“So I play G’iah, and you need to know… That you should watch the show. I don’t know what I’m allowed to say! I’m too scared. I’m too scared, guys!”

To be fair to Clarke, Secret Invasion is a particularly well-guarded vault of secrets in the already incredibly spoiler-phobic MCU. The whole premise of this noirish conspiracy thriller miniseries is that the Earth has been infiltrated by shapeshifting Skrulls. So we literally don’t know who is who and which side they are really on.

When it comes to Clarke’s role, however, Marvel has surprisingly already revealed more than you would expect. It’s been officially confirmed that G’iah is the daughter of Talos (Ben Mendelsohn), who previously appeared as a child in Captain Marvel. Presumably, that means she’s an ally to her father and Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson), but we shouldn’t take that for granted.

Secret Invasion premieres on Disney Plus from June 21.
