Waiting for an oil change is usually just a boring chore, but for Olivia Boblet (@oliviaboblet), it turned into an embarrassing nightmare. She shared her experience on TikTok, and it serves as a reminder that we all need to be more careful with our tech settings before handing over our car keys.
The trouble started when Boblet left her Bluetooth connected while the shop workers were handling her car, reports Brobible. Her phone has a habit of randomly playing voice memos out loud, and that is exactly what happened while the mechanics were working. As they pulled up in her car, the stereo was already eight minutes into one of her private voice memos.
She admitted that it takes a lot to embarrass her, but this trip to the oil change shop definitely did the trick. It is the kind of situation that makes you want to disappear, and for Boblet, there was even more history with this particular shop that made it all feel worse.
The awkward situation was made worse by an already complicated history with the shop
About six months earlier, the same company had worked on her brakes and spilled fluid all over her garage, which forced her to get her car towed. Since the mistake was completely their fault, they promised her a free oil change to make up for it. When she came back for this latest visit, she did not have the paper slip to prove the deal. Even though the workers initially said they did not remember the arrangement, they eventually gave her the free service anyway.
Boblet said the combination of getting the free oil change, having the workers listen to her private voice notes, and feeling like she had blown them off left her feeling like a thief. Michigan has seen its share of strange and unsettling stories lately, including a case where a Michigan woman was allegedly held captive for two years in a basement by her sister-in-law.
The video reached 21,500 views and sparked plenty of relatable reactions from viewers who share the same fears about car tech. One commenter simply said, “I would die.” Others shared their own habits for avoiding this kind of situation, with one user noting, “I would simply ✨cry✨.”
It is a simple but smart habit that many drivers are now saying they follow every time they drop their car off for service. Michigan has also made headlines for other alarming incidents involving vehicles, such as the story of a Michigan toddler locked in an impounded car for nearly two days before being rescued.
While tech mishaps like Boblet’s can be mortifying, some people are using car audio systems for fun instead. Another TikTok user named Cameron showed how he set up his Apple CarPlay to automatically play the viral “Welcome to Chili’s” sound every time he plugs his phone in. In his video caption, he joked, “I will abuse this power.”
